00 Department Summary: Drake University Public Safety is the main provider of emergency services and is committed to maintaining a safe campus environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
With staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Public Safety staff is committed to being active role-models for both students and employees and developing positive community relations with Des Moines Police Department and other organizations.
Job Summary: Drake University Public Safety is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Safety Officer for the evening hours of 3:30 pm - 11:30 pm.
This officer will contribute to the safety of the university by patrolling the campus, providing assistance in conflict resolution and assisting in safety prevention efforts.
The successful candidate should be able to perform all of the essential job functions as well as meet the minimum education/experience requirements.
The position will require the candidate to work weekends and holidays.
The chosen candidate will need to become a responsible employee/Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Act.
Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma/ GED - Written / verbal communication skills - Ability to follow verbal and written instructions - Computer experience - A valid driver's license and ability to meet insurability requirements is required to drive on behalf of the university - Post offer, pre-employment drug screen required Job Duties: 45% - Patrol the grounds, buildings, and parking areas to identify any irregular conditions that might result in property loss or injury, and take adequate intermediary measures to assure the protection of the employees, students, assets, and public reputation.
- (Essential) 10% - Provide consultation, conflict resolution, and referrals to students.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with university policy and practice.
- (Essential) 10% - Perform administrative support, including all documentation or any other correspondence for the unit and any other related administrative duties.
- (Essential) 5% - Answer phone calls, providing a pleasant and helpful phone contact for faculty, staff, employees, and public.
- (Essential) 5% - Participate in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
- (Essential) 5% - Assist in safety prevention efforts, including responding to all safety drills, fire alarms, and emergencies.
- (Essential) 5% - Utilize electronic card access, closed circuit television and other audio/visual monitoring systems, monitors and supervises the response to all reports or irregular conditions, including the unauthorized entry of persons or vehicles to protected buildings and areas, breaches of perimeter security or any other suspicious activities occurring on university property.
- (Essential) 5% - Investigate security incidents and prepare written reports on findings.
- (Essential) 5% - Contact local law enforcement personnel when circumstances warrant.
- (Essential) 5% - Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
